Little Pomp

From the Lewis and Clark Fort Mandan Foundation:

February 11, 1805

Happy birthday, little Pomp! Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, the son of Toussaint and Sacagawea, was probably born in a room very much like this, 208 years ago today.

  7. I can't belive that the baby Baptiste was born 208 years ago. That is so interesting, and I would like to live 208 years ago and see their culture that they do there. Lauren

  9. That's a small bed and the ceiling is super close to the floor it sounds like they were either pretty short or just couldn't make the ceiling high enough!

  10. I'm confused that they sometimes call him Baptiste and sometimes Pomp. Also I wonder if anyone has ever found out
Charbonneau's first name. Even though we know Laura is playing Charbonneau.

    1. Jean Baptiste Charbonneau = Pomp (or, sometimes, Pompey)

His parents were Sacagawea and Toussaint Charbonneau. Now, you also know he had a sister named Lisette, too! :)

    2. Do you pronounce Toussaint like (TOO-Saint)or (TOE-saint)?

    1. Laura,

When Sacagawea was ready to give birth to Pomp, Captain Lewis gave her water mixed with pieces of a rattle snake's rattle to drink. He was told it would make the delivery easier! What do you think?
